Ready to find out what is causing your pain and start feeling better? Scheduling your evaluation at The Back Clinic is easy — and you do not need a referral. In Delaware, you have direct access to physical therapy, which means you can schedule your first appointment without waiting to see another provider first.

Your initial evaluation is a one-hour, one-on-one session with a licensed physical therapist — not a tech, aide, or assistant. Here is what the visit includes:

• Detailed health history — We will ask about your symptoms, how they started, your medical history, your goals, and what activities are being affected by your condition
• Physical examination — Hands-on movement testing, strength assessment, flexibility evaluation, and specialized orthopedic or neurological tests specific to your symptoms
• Diagnosis and explanation — Your therapist will explain what is causing your symptoms in clear, understandable terms so you know exactly what is happening and why
• Personalized treatment plan — A customized plan outlining recommended treatment frequency, expected timeline, specific goals, and what you can expect at each stage of recovery
• Initial treatment — Most patients receive hands-on treatment during the evaluation visit itself, so you can begin making progress from day one

You will leave your first visit with a clear understanding of your diagnosis, a plan for getting better, and confidence that you are in the right hands. If at any point during the evaluation your therapist determines that imaging, specialist referral, or additional medical workup is needed, we will coordinate that for you promptly.

Insurance: We accept most major insurance plans including Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and workers’ compensation. Call us with your insurance information and we will verify your benefits before your first visit so there are no surprises.

What to bring: Insurance card, photo ID, any imaging reports (X-rays, MRIs) or physician referrals you may have. A referral is not required but is helpful if available. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.

Paperwork: New patient forms can be completed online before your visit through our patient portal, saving you time on your first day. Our front desk team will guide you through the process when you schedule.

Scheduling tip: We know that when you are in pain, you want to be seen as soon as possible. We do our best to accommodate new patients within a few business days of calling. The sooner you schedule, the sooner you can start feeling better.
